Maldives confirms Malaysia friendly

Male; Maldives- Football Association of Maldives (FAM) confirms the Maldivian national team will play an international friendly with Malaysian national side, which is scheduled to play in the Malaysian soil.

FAM said that they have arranged to play the match with Malaysian team on 17th of this month, and they are trying to arrange a friendly with Malaysian super league side Selangor. If agreed, the match will be held on the 14th of this month. The national team is set to leave on the 12th of this month.

Maldives has failed to play a single friendly over the past two years, since the SAFF championship, where the Senior team played in Pakistan in 2005. The first match since then has been the international friendly match against Oman, where the national team lost 0-1 Oman.

Despite a tremendous performance from the national team in the group stage of World cup Qualifying 2002, with a narrow win in home against the Yemeni side, Maldives was eliminated from the FIFA World cup 2010 qualifying preliminary round.
